Blue Bangkok / Peter Harris
Oil on Board, 120 by 90 cm ,
Peter Harris (1923-2009) was the founder of Malaysia's Wednesday Art Group (WAG) in 1952, which included figures like Patrick Ng, Dzulkifli Buyong and Cheong Lai Tong as well as Syed Ahmad Jamal, who were modern art pioneers of Malaysia. Harris was the art superintendent of Malaya (1951-1960) and then Gaya College of Sabah (1962 - 1967). After his KL stint, he returned to England via Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Japan and USA. This painting together with the one of Hong Kong were probably painted from his travels to these places during this trip.
