Tran Luong (born 1960) came to international prominence in the early 1990s as a member of the Gang of Five collective during the "Open Door" or "Doi Moi" era of Vietnam. This painting is an early work where he painted abstracts based on nature themes. Luong subsequently changed artistic direction to focus largely on more experimental medium like video, new media, performance installation and conceptual art. Luong has exhibited widely abroad in many major biennales and his works can be found in the collection of major international museums including the Guggenheim in New York.
