Artwork Details

Pham Luan (born 1954) is well known for his colourful paintings of Hanoi old quarters and the country's northern landscape. He was one of the painters who came to prominence during the Doi Moi era. He has a good following among Asian collectors especially after his representation by Galerie Le Vong in Hong Kong.

This night scene of old Hanoi in gouache shows the strong influence of the modernist painter Bui Xuan Phai who is also dubbed "Pho" Phai or "street" Phai.
